LP-Indivisible Endorses Labor Activist and Democrat Charlesetta Wilson for Michigan House District 6
In a wide primary for District 6 covering part of Detroit, Ecorse and River Rouge, a key community group endorses labor activist Charlesetta Wilson for State Representative.
Detroit, Mich. –This week, Charlesetta Wilson, a Democratic candidate for State Representative in Michigan’s 6thHouse District, received the exclusive endorsement of Lafayette Park’s Indivisible group (LP-Invisible). A vital community group in the district, LP-Indivisible’s membership includes a highly engaged voter base for House District 6.
“Since that grim day in January 2017, Indivisible has been one of the most vocal and effective leaders of the resistance,” says Wilson. “Support and an endorsement from the affiliate in my home district is a personal honor. And now that I’ve met some of the people involved in this group in person, I feel even more inspired by the efforts they’re focusing on that were laid out to me!”
From LP-Indivisible: “Charlesetta has been fighting on the frontlines of income inequality through her work as a shop steward for Unite HERE Local 24, the Hospitality and Restaurant Employees union. Her experience negotiating contracts with the casinos, poring over healthcare policies to protect the workers in her bargaining unit, finding points of agreement with their employers, and working the room to build support will serve her well as a Democrat in a Republican-dominated State legislature.”
Charlesetta Wilson is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for State Representative from Michigan’s 6th House District. A lifelong Detroit resident, she is the third of four sisters raised by a single mother who supported her family as a laundry worker. With her husband, she is raising three school age children.
As a shop steward for UNITE HERE Local 24 she represents thousands of hospitality workers. She currently serves on the Metro AFL-CIO executive board. She was instrumental in helping the casino workers understand and negotiate their health insurance during 2015 contract bargaining for the casino workers.
Charlesetta believes in the power of collective action and will leverage this important tool as an advocate for the citizens of District 6. Working with local businesses and employers, she will work for economic justice, educational justice and environmental justice. For more information about the campaign, visit www.votecharlesetta.com.
